Our ISO 9001:2015 certificate has been renewed for a further three years, and the FSC chain-of-custody scope has been extended to cover solid ash timber rather than packaging board alone. Both audits were carried out in July and the certificates are issued.
What the ISO audit found
The audit covered the full scope: design input, sampling, incoming material inspection, in-process inspection, final inspection and corrective action. There were no major non-conformities and two minor observations:
- Two incoming timber batches had moisture-content readings recorded on paper but not transcribed into the batch file until the following week. Corrected by moving the reading to a tablet entry at the kiln, effective immediately.
- A carton drop-test record for one SKU referenced a superseded revision of the packing spec. Corrected by tying the packing document number to the SKU master so an old revision cannot be quoted.
Both are closed. Neither affected shipped product, which is the honest way to describe most minor findings — the value of the audit is that the process gap is found before it becomes a customer complaint.
What changed for the buyer
Certificates are worth very little on their own. What they changed inside the workshop is what a buyer can actually use:
| Before | Now |
|---|---|
| Batch numbers traced from assembly onwards | Traced from kiln charge to carton label; a claim can be traced back to the timber lot |
| Final inspection at 10% AQL sample | Documented in-process checks at four stations, with the inspection record travelling in the carton |
| Corrective action handled by email | Logged, root-caused and closed with a dated verification step |
FSC chain of custody, extended to ash
The FSC CoC scope previously covered only the packaging board we buy. It now covers solid North American ash bought against FSC Mix Credit, with the transaction certificates held for every lot. In practice this means a buyer can specify FSC Mix on an ash order and receive the invoice claim and the certificate number with the shipping documents, rather than being told it is "available on request".
A certificate does not make a good chair. What it does is make a claim verifiable — and buyers increasingly cannot put an unverifiable claim in front of their own customer.
Documents buyers ask for
The current ISO 9001:2015 certificate, the FSC CoC certificate, REACH SVHC declarations for the finishes and adhesives, and the CARB/TSCA formaldehyde statement for plywood components are all available as PDFs. Email jacky@soonmao.com with the SKUs you are quoting and we will send the relevant set rather than a generic pack.
