Second CNC line lifts capacity to 18 containers

A second three-axis CNC nesting centre went into production this month, alongside an automatic edge bander and a new 60-bag extraction system. Monthly capacity moves from roughly 15 containers to 18, and the change buyers will notice first is lead time on repeat orders.

What was installed

• Second 3-axis nesting centre, 3,000 × 1,500 mm bed, with a second shift added to run it. Flat components for carcasses and tabletops are now cut on two machines in parallel instead of queueing behind one.
• Automatic edge bander with laser measuring and a glue-pool sensor, which removes the manual rework step on plywood carcasses and lifts the consistency of the 1 mm ABS edge.
• Extraction, 60 bags, ducted to both nesting centres and the sanding room. This is a compliance and a quality change at once: less airborne dust means a cleaner finish room and a workshop that passes a social audit without a corrective action.

What it does not change

Capacity is not a reason to accept an order we cannot finish properly. Sampling still takes 7–10 days, shop drawings still take 48 hours, and a new custom piece still needs an approved sample before it goes into production. What the new line buys is headroom: a 400-piece hotel order can now run without pushing a smaller stock customer's reorder back a month.

Every factory says it can grow. The only useful question is whether the finishing and packing capacity grew with the cutting capacity. In our case it did, in the same quarter, because cutting faster and then queueing at the paint line is not capacity at all.

Booking capacity

Peak season runs from July to November, when outdoor programmes and Q1 retail replenishment overlap.
